Houses designed with tranquillity in mind
The design of the houses arose from the need to create a space that does not compete with the landscape, but allows it to come into its own. The architecture here is calm and understated, free from excessive ornamentation, and subordinate to the light, proportions and rhythm of the site. Each house has been designed as a self-contained whole, offering privacy and a sense of seclusion, even when fully occupied.
The interior layout supports the natural rhythm of the day: the bright living area opens out onto the surroundings, whilst the bedrooms remain a haven of tranquillity. These are spaces designed for being together, but also for being apart, without compromise and without a sense of confinement.
The landscape as part of the experience
Studzienno was designed with long-term integration into the landscape in mind. Minimising interference with the site, preserving the natural vegetation and making thoughtful use of the space are an integral part of the site’s philosophy.
The immediate surroundings of the houses consist of natural habitats characteristic of this area: dry meadows, heathland, wild vegetation and wildlife. The landscape changes with the seasons, yet retains its authenticity.
It is a space that teaches mindfulness: moving along designated paths; pausing and observing.
Responsibility for the venue
We respect the site and its character. Responsibility is not merely an afterthought or a slogan here, but forms the starting point for all design decisions.
We are situated within a Natura 2000 site, in a Special Protection Area for birds. That is why we have added special dots to the glass panes that reflect the sky, so that birds can see the obstacle and remain safe.
We have fenced off the 1‑hectare plot using only forest netting, which does not hinder the migration of the forest’s smaller inhabitants: mammals, reptiles and amphibians.
We draw water from our own deep well and use a high-quality biological sewage treatment plant to return to nature what we have borrowed, in the purest possible form. Heating is provided by heat pumps, supplemented by traditional wood-burning stoves.
Natural design
The houses were built using CLT technology, with cross-laminated timber. This solution combines structural durability with the natural character of the material. The exposed timber in the interiors creates a warm, stable atmosphere and enhances the comfort of living.
CLT provides excellent thermal and acoustic insulation, as well as natural regulation of the indoor climate. The house responds to changes in temperature and humidity in a way that is almost imperceptible, yet noticeable to its occupants.
